 Joya de Nicaragua Cabinetta Corona Gorda is a a cigar as intriguing as it looks.

This cigar boasts a unique two tone wrapper primarily serving the very important cigar purpose of making it look cool.

The first half offers a beautifully smooth, mild and flavourful experience. At the risk of sounding like a tosser, do I dare say I tasted cream? …and… honey? with a hint of spice, like looking at a peppercorn across the road?

Yes I did and yes I do. 

While the Principes Long Filler Maduro is my personal favourite when it comes to flavour changes, this cigar definitely gave it a run for its money. 

While it was probably in my head because the wrapper is a different colour, the last third, wrapped in that darker leaf, had me tasting mostly cigar, but with the addition of a hint of chocolate mixed in.

Do I taste chocolate because its a chocolate coloured wrapper and I’m an easily persuaded idiot? Probably

Does that actually matter if I enjoyed the chocolate flavour, wether it was actually there or not? No

In the final 5cm or so the flavours of this cigar intensify into a fuller bodied, smoky (duh) delight. That distant peppercorn has crossed the road, and the chocolate real or imagined, is there to stay.

Let’s be honest, if you’re buying this cigar, you’re doing it because it has a funny two tone wrapper not for its 'flavour transitions'.
