Produced in the A.J. Fernandez factory, the Aging Room Quattro Nicaragua Maestro won the incredibly coveted Cigar of the Year award from the cigar reviewing magazine Cigar Aficionado.
This is the creme de la creme of cigars, the single best one produced that year, cuban or otherwise, a piece of cigar history and an incredible experience all round. The issue is, I genuinely think I don’t know enough about cigars to write about it, this is an incredible cigar, one that I enjoyed from the first puff to the lip burning stub, its outstanding, but I couldn’t tell you why.
In terms of the experience that I can talk about. The shape of this cigar is spectacular, the tapered end feels better in the mouth than traditional round cigars and the lightly box pressed body fits between you fingers like it was created to be there (it was). The smoke production is fantastic and the evenness of the burn line impeccable. The flavour was an experience, but again, I could not tell you why.
Cigar reviews mention a symphony of chocolate, coffee and leather in perfect harmony boosted by the subtle maple sweetness that coats the palate both offsetting and blending in the the peppery kick, the entire ensemble building and growing until the crescendo of the final third. I did not, and still do not, know what that means.
It is delicious, it is an amazing smoke, it is an experience in and of itself, but I couldn't tell you why.
