Affordable Cigars in the UK: Quality Without Breaking the Bank

Cigars often carry the reputation of being an ultra premium product that only the rich can afford, but that’s not really the case.

At CaLaDa we offer affordable options that provide the same quality, taste, and construction as these super expensive options, allowing you to step into the world of cigars without having to remortgage the house, for any Gen Z readers, a mortgage is something you will never be able to get so don’t worry about it.

The Truth About Cheap Cigars

First off, the cheapest cigars, often priced between £2 and £10, are, in my humble opinion not worth your time, if you like them, smoke them. However, if you’ve never smoked a cigar before, I strongly suggest you don’t start with these.

These cheap machine-made or Dutch blends lack flavour, burn too quickly, are constructed horribly, and are so far removed from hand rolled quality cigars, they’re basically a different product all together

My first cigar at 18 was a machine-made Dutch blend that I bought from a wine shop and it nearly turned me off cigars for good. It tasted like cardboard, and it wasn’t until I tried a quality hand-rolled cigar that I understood what cigars were about.

Unlike machine made, mass production cigars, the tobacco used in hand-rolled cigars has to be high quality to justify the extra cost of hand rolling them, and with hand-rolled cigars starting at just £8 here at CaLaDa, you can enjoy a premium, flavourful experience without breaking the bank.

The Myth of Exclusivity: Cuban Cigars vs. New World Cigars

Cuban cigars are often perceived as the gold standard, but they carry a hefty premium because they carry the Cuban name. While some Cuban cigars are excellent, many New World cigars rival or even surpass them in quality at a much lower cost.

New World cigars hail from countries like Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Mexico. Many of these producers are Cuban emigrants who brought their expertise with them, these cigars are made by Cubans, just not in Cuba.

Quality Assurance: New World cigars typically undergo draw testing to ensure they smoke perfectly, unlike some Cubans, which can suffer from tight draws.

Value for Money: Without the “Cuban” label, New World cigars deliver premium quality at a fraction of the price.

Smaller Sizes, Same Great Quality

A lot of our cigars are cheaper than you may expect from a normal cigar because they’re smaller, not because they’re worse quality.

All of our cigars are crafted with the same premium tobacco as their larger counterparts but offer a more economical price point as they use less tobacco.

Realistically, I don’t want to sit around outside for 2+ hours smoking a massive cigar, although we do sell that too (Have a look here), these cheaper cigars generally run around 45-60 minutes, delivering the full cigar experience without the long commitment or necessitating braving the cold weather.

For those who want a shorter smoking experience, smaller cigars like panetelas, cigarillos, or petit coronas are excellent options.

Why And How We Keep Our Prices Low

We are exclusively an online store, that means that we pay £25 a month for a Shopify subscription, rather than £10,000 a month for a physical shop on the high street.

We are just starting up in the cigar game, so we’re making small margins on our cigars to build up some reputation.

We offer discounts on multipacks for all of our cigars and sampler packs, pretty much for the same reason as above, we want you to want to buy from us.

  • 5% off any three pack of cigars.
  • 10% off five pack of cigars.
  • 10% off all boxes of cigars.
  • 10% off on sampler packs and Build-A-Bundle packs.

Cigars don’t have to cost a fortune to be enjoyable. By exploring New World options and smaller sizes, you can discover high-quality smokes that suit both your budget and taste. So why settle for less when you can enjoy a premium experience without breaking the bank?
